Support from interplast Germany e.V. for operations at Lamu Hospital, Uganda

Interplast sees its mission as helping patients with congenital or acquired defects through plastic surgery in developing countries, as well as helping to significantly improve their quality of life through accompanying humanitarian and charitable social measures.

The members of the surgical teams are specialists who are specifically deployed where advanced care is not yet available. They volunteer their services pro bono, usually during their vacation time. In many missions around the world, they have helped countless severely disfigured children through plastic surgery. By providing on-site assistance, local doctors gain knowledge that will enable them to solve many problems themselves in the future.

Patients with deformities and severe burn injuries are primarily treated. Interplast teams travel to Jinja, Uganda, approximately three to four times a year to perform two weeks of surgery at Lamu Hospital, as well as to involve and train local physicians.

In June 2025, we were on-site in Uganda with an interplast team, eight dedicated doctors and nurses who sacrificed their vacation time for this mission. Nearly 60 operations were performed, the majority on burn victims. The treatment was free of charge for the patients, and people who had suffered disfigurements and functional limitations, some of them for decades, were able to regain some of their quality of life.

The Florian Lex Foundation supports
interplast specifically for its remarkable missions at Lamu Hospital. We rely on donations to fund additional missions.
