Support from Pro Uganda and their New Life Orthopaedic Center, Mukono, Uganda

Pro Uganda was founded over 10 years ago to help people in Uganda and the surrounding area, especially those with disabilities, through orthopedic care. Under the leadership of Pro Uganda, the New Life Orthopedic Center was established in Mukono, Uganda. The overarching goal is to restore quality of life to impoverished amputees through prosthetics, other orthopedic devices, physical therapy, and psychotherapy, as well as to provide holistic care. Some amputations are due to burn injuries.

In addition, Ugandan specialists are trained and further educated in Mukono to improve the inadequate care for amputees throughout the country. The workshop manufactures orthopedic aids for young and adult patients, and patients are trained in their use. Local trainees are also trained as orthopedic technicians. A new competence center with a training workshop, seminar and office space, and other accompanying aftercare services rounds out the comprehensive range of services.

The Florian Lex Foundation supports the New Life Orthopaedic Center through a fund that provides financial assistance to burn victims who cannot afford prosthetics and/or post-operative physiotherapy. This allows every burn amputee, regardless of their financial circumstances, to receive orthopedic care and return to life.
