Support from Glenda from Ghana

We've known Glenda for almost seven years, since she came to Munich at the age of five to receive treatment for her severe burns. We financed her accommodation at the time and regularly took her on outings in and around Munich. In short, her accident happened while playing in Ghana: she collided with her sister, who was holding a pot of boiling water. The water spilled over Glenda upon impact. The problem: the burns she suffered on her head, chest, and back were so severe that she could no longer grow without surgery, as the scarred skin was unable to regenerate. Since this wasn't possible in Ghana, she came to Munich. There, the medical team led by Dr. Krohn from the Schwabing Clinic and Prof. Ninkovic from the Bogenhausen Clinic surgically treated Glenda's most serious injuries over a period of four months.

Glenda is now a 12-year-old, resolute, self-confident, and energetic young woman living in Hamburg. She attends a grammar school there, is top of her class, and is the student representative for the lower grades (!). She wants to graduate from high school, go to university, and become a plastic surgeon—so that she can help burn victims one day.

Since Glenda is still growing, she needs to undergo regular skin treatments such as laser therapy and microneedling. Surgical interventions are unavoidable, and we invited her to Munich in July 2024 for examinations and an update on her treatment plan. In addition to all the medically indicated treatments, we also accompanied her to physiotherapy, provided her with clothing, and organized outings. Our aim is to nurture not only her physical health but also the well-being of this remarkable young woman, so that in a few years she will be not just any plastic surgeon, but a strong young woman.

The Florian Lex Foundation organized and financed Glenda's trip and treatment stay in Munich. She found accommodation with us and was provided with everything she needed. We continue to support her; for example, we are currently helping her tackle the dreaded orthodontist project of getting braces. We will cover the costs wherever necessary so that Glenda will be not only a strong young woman, but also one with beautiful teeth.
