Support from Glenda from Ghana

We have known Glenda for almost seven years, ever since she came to Munich at the age of five to be treated for the most severe burns she had sustained. We had financed her accommodation back then and regularly took her on trips in and around Munich. Her accident in a nutshell: while playing in Ghana, she collided with her sister, who was holding a pot of boiling water in her hands, and the water poured over Glenda in the collision. The problem: the burns she suffered on her head, chest, and back were so severe that she could no longer grow without surgery because the scarred skin could no longer grow with her. Since this was not available in Ghana, she came to Munich. At that time, the medical team led by Dr. Krohn from the Schwabing Hospital and Prof. Ninkovic from the Bogenhausen Hospital treated Glenda's worst injuries surgically for four months.

Glenda is now a resolute, self-confident, and energetic 12-year-old girl living in Hamburg. She attends high school there, is top of her class, and is the junior class representative (!). She wants to graduate from high school, study, and become a plastic surgeon—so that she can help burn victims one day.

Since Glenda is still growing, she must undergo regular skin treatments such as lasers, needling, and similar procedures. Surgical procedures are unavoidable; we invited her to Munich for examinations and an update on her treatment plan in July 2024. In addition to all the medically indicated treatments, we also took her to physical therapy, dressed her in clothes, and went on excursions, among other things. We hope that not only her skin but also the soul of this remarkable young girl will be preserved, and that in a few years she will be not just another plastic surgeon, but a strong young lady.

The Florian Lex Foundation organized and financed Glenda's trip and treatment stay in Munich. She found accommodation with us and received all the necessary equipment. We will continue to help her; for example, we are currently working with her on the tedious project of getting braces at her orthodontist's, and we will cover the costs wherever necessary.
